In fact, it might actually be offensive. For example, you wouldn't go up to your friend Jane and say, "Hey George, where's your brother Nancy?" Just as offensive would be calling your own father by a name that wasn't actually his own, you know, like the name of his son? Tov argues that this is exactly what we do when it comes to God. How much more offensive can it be to God the Father when we use the wrong name for Him?
